Kruggel Lawton Adds Talented Professionals to its Nonprofit and Tax Services Teams

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Kruggel Lawton is pleased to welcome two seasoned professionals to their team. Joining the firm’s South Bend office are Senior Staff Accountant Allison James, CPA, and Senior Tax Manager Stephen Varner, CPA.


Allison James, CPA, specializes in accounting and audit engagements for nonprofit organizations. She is also well-versed in exempt organization information reporting and will be a key member of the firm’s nonprofit services team. Prior to joining Kruggel Lawton, James had six years of public accounting experience, including nonprofit, governmental, higher education and a variety of for-profit clients. In addition, she served for four years as the director of finance for a large, regional nonprofit organization. James holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Ind. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.


Stephen Varner, CPA, brings over 15 years of experience in tax planning, compliance and research. He is highly skilled in reviewing complex tax returns for a variety of businesses, including manufacturers and distribution companies. He has worked with businesses of all sizes, from privately owned local companies to major global corporations. Varner is an expert in federal, state and local income and sales and use tax areas, regularly advising his clients on proactive tax planning strategies, as well as resolving tax inquiries and controversies with tax authorities. Varner earned a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University, South Bend, Ind., and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, business administration and management of information technology from Grace College, Winona Lake, Ind. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.
