Stephen R. Varner, CPA, MBA Elected Partner at Kruggel Lawton CPAs

Kruggel Lawton CPAs is delighted to announce Stephen Varner as the firm’s newest partner, effective January 1, 2021. 

Stephen is based in Kruggel Lawton’s South Bend office and serves clients throughout the South Bend region.  He provides corporate and individual taxation, state and local tax, estate planning and consulting services to companies and their owners in a variety of industries.  He also plays leadership roles in the firm’s business and staff development functions.

“Since joining Kruggel Lawton in 2018, Stephen has added enormous value for our clients, our colleagues, and in our communities,” said Managing Partner Barry Hall, CPA, CGMA. “Stephen’s personal values align with and advance those we uphold as a firm, and he will strengthen our partner group’s depth and determination to improve the lives of our clients, our people, and our communities for another generation.”

Stephen is a Kansas native, and he received a B.S. degree in Accounting, Business Administration, and Management of Information Technology from Grace College & Seminary in Winona Lake, IN.  He also completed an M.B.A. from the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics at Indiana University South Bend.  He holds an active Indiana CPA license, along with memberships in the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of CPAs.  He has also become involved in the Indiana CPA Society’s Tax Resource Advisory Council (TRAC).

Stephen contributes his time and leadership to Junior Achievement serving St. Joseph County.  He and his wife Freya and their six children live in Bremen, IN.  Prior to joining Kruggel Lawton, Stephen had several years of progressively responsible client service experience at a local Mishawaka firm and a national firm in their Elkhart and South Bend offices.  In 2016-2017, Stephen and his family served in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with Africa Inland Mission.
