This session will provide an overview of succession planning and why it is so important for the continuation of a business. Topics to be covered include strategies for long-term survival, timing the shift of management and ownership, selecting logical successors, contingency planning, and identifying key advisors and roles.

Session 2: Business Valuation Essentials

Your business may be your largest asset. As such, its value is a crucial piece of your estate and/or succession planning. Understanding your business’ worth allows for informed decisions and, ultimately, financial success. The key points of determining a business’ value for the sale of the business will be covered including: what is a business valuation and its importance, determining value based on assets and cash flow methods, weighing the impact of economic conditions and competition, using valuation to determine a purchase price, effects of valuation on financing and preparing the acquisition package for lenders.

Session 3: Structuring and Funding Your Succession Agreement

This session will focus on the funding process: how ownership and succession strategies are affected by tax considerations, developing buy-sell contracts to address business operations, authority, succession; specific provisions of the agreement, common mistakes in drafting the agreement, and funding options--insured/non-insured funding.
