Michigan Property Tax Deadlines

February 20, 2020

  • Form 632 – Personal Property Statement. This form is the basic filing required of taxpayers with personal property who do not qualify for the small business exemption, and are not claiming manufacturer’s exemption (see below).
  • Form 5076 – Small Business Property Tax Exemption Claim. Taxpayers with lower amounts of personal property (“true cash value” less than $80,000 for all parcels within the city or township) should file this form to claim full exemption from paying personal property tax on that property.
  • Form 5278 – Eligible Manufacturing Personal Property (EMPP) Exemption Claim (Combined Document). Manufacturing taxpayers with EMPP should file this form to claim exemption from the basic personal property on qualified personal property. Taxpayers who take advantage of this exemption will still pay tax on EMPP, called the “Essential Services Assessment,” but at lower tax rates. This can result in significant tax savings.
  • Form 3711 – Report of Heavy Earth Moving Equipment Claimed as Exempt Inventory. This form should be filed if a claim of exemption is being made for heavy earth moving equipment. See STC Bulletin 4 of 2001; MCL 211.19(1).

If you are unsure whether you qualify for any of the exemptions noted above, or have other questions about filing, feel free to call one of our tax professionals. We will be glad to help you navigate these filings and potentially reduce your tax payments.
