Tax Partner Jeffrey McGowan Makes Transition to Full Time Teaching Career

jeff-mcgowanJune 30, 2016 — The partners of Kruggel Lawton CPAs have announced that their colleague and tax partner, Jeffrey M. McGowan, CPA, CGMA, MBA, will transition to the role of tax consultant effective June 30, 2016. The move now allows Jeff to pursue a full time teaching career, in addition to maintaining a limited number of client responsibilities with the firm.

Jeff has had a passion for teaching in higher education for many years. From 2001-2013, he served as adjunct professor in the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business Master of Science in Accountancy program. According to Jeff, he “always thought that teaching was something he could be really good at IF he was able to devote the majority of his time to it.”

He now has a chance to make that dream a reality. Jeff has accepted a full time appointment as an assistant professor at Trine University, Angola, Ind., beginning Fall 2016 where he will teach undergraduate and MBA accounting courses. “This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make as I know I am stepping away from a great firm and team of talented, hard-working, caring people,” he said.

Jeff has been a member of the Kruggel Lawton family for nearly 24 years and will certainly be missed. However, as a tax consultant for the firm, he will check in periodically through phone and email, as well as have office hours on Saturdays during tax season.

“We will miss Jeff, but we are also excited to see him pursue his passion,” said Barry Hall, managing partner of Kruggel Lawton. “We are fortunate that he remains a strong advocate for the work we do and will continue to lend his tax knowledge and expertise. Our team will work closely with Jeff to ensure a smooth transition for all client matters and we look forward to seeing him around the office from time to time.”

Jeff is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Indiana CPA Society, for which he previously chaired the Tax Resource Advisory Council. He is a Level III Certified Indiana Assessor-Appraiser. His community involvement includes serving as board treasurer for the Family & Children’s Center, Inc., and the Lifetime Education and Research Network (LEARN), as well as a member of the Family & Children’s Services Board of Directors.
